Overview

The Traffic Street development was created to provide more than 500 contemporary student bedrooms, alongside shared kitchens, lounges and communal facilities in Nottingham city centre.

Workspace Blinds was appointed to provide a durable and cost-effective shading solution that would support privacy, room darkening and occupant comfort while complementing the interior design of the development.

Workspace Blinds worked closely with our site team throughout the project, coordinating their installation around other trades and responding well to changes in the programme. The package was delivered safely, efficiently and to a consistently high standard.

The Brief

Workspace Blinds was appointed to provide a complete window shading package for a major student accommodation development in Nottingham city centre.

The client required a durable blackout solution for more than 500 student bedrooms, providingresidents with privacy and effective control of both natural and external light. The selected systemalso needed to complement the contemporary interior scheme, meet the relevant commercialperformance requirements and withstand the demands of a high-use student environment.

With 625 installations required across the development, the package needed to be manufacturedand delivered in line with the wider construction programme.

The Challenge

The design of the window openings created limited space for the shading system, requiring a compact solution that could achieve effective room darkening without restricting the usable window area.

Its city-centre location also meant that external lighting could affect rooms throughout the night, making strong blackout performance an important part of the specification.

In addition to the technical requirements, installation needed to be carefully coordinated across multiple floors while other trades continued working throughout the building. This required close communication with the site team and a phased approach that could respond to changes within the wider construction programme.
